The Happy 98.9 FM Sports team commemorated International Women’s Day by honoring some notable figures in the sports business.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence.

Rosalind Kromah Amoah, a renowned Ghanaian journalist who has excelled in her field of work with the Graphic Communications Group, co-hosted the International Women’s Day edition of the Happy Sports show.

Madam Rosalind interviewed some well-known female journalists, including Veronica Crentsil, who recounted her experiences and offered guidance to aspiring journalists.

Perpetual Crentsil – Former Sports Journalist

According to Perpetual Crentsil, she started off as a writer with Graphic Sports. She shared that it was not easy working with the sports department, which was male dominated. However, she got the support of her team members to be able to deliver on her mandate.

She advised the young ladies to have the confidence in themselves and be determined to succeed.

Vivian Ragor – Retired FIFA referee

Vivian Ragor, a retired FIFA referee, also shared how she entered officiating.
According to her, she took inspiration from Madam Linear Addy, who was a referee. She started off her duties as a referee at the college level before she got the FIFA badge in 2003.

She officiated for seven years before deciding to drop the whistle.
Madam Ragor refereed some big games, such as Hearts of Oak vs. Asante Kotoko in Sunyani, Hearts of Oak vs. the Great Olympics, in which she excelled.

She advised that women should acquire more knowledge in every aspect or career they find themselves in.
On Wamputu Sports, the team also celebrated some more women in sports, such as Evelyn Nsiah Asare, a board member of Asante Kotoko and also the Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies.
Madam Nsiah Asare stated she hopes in the near future a woman will also be appointed to become the chairman of the Black Stars management committee.

She also campaigned for women to be appointed as heads of the Black Queens management committee.

Doreen Awuah and Veronica Commey were other women in sports who also shared their journey in the industry to motivate young ones coming up.
