Proposed GFA Presidential filing fee should be thrown out – Ntow Fianko

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed an increment for the filing fee of the GFA presidential position from GHC 5,000 to GHC 50,000. The proposal awaits a Congress meeting scheduled for July 10, 2023.

However, According to the former Division One League Board Chairman, Lawyer Ntow Fianko, the proposal is unreasonable and should be thrown out by Congress.

The proposal for the increment was attributed to the high costs of administering the GFA elections.

Reacting to the proposal by the FA in an interview on Happy FM, Ntow Fianko fumed, “ How do people who have the interest of Ghana at heart afford such a fee? This is unreasonable and should be thrown out at the Congress meeting. Setting up this proposal looks like a scheme being set up to deter others from contesting the incumbent, Kurt Okraku. From GHC 5000 to GHC 50,000? And their excuse is to cover the cost of elections? This is not the first we are having such elections. Such an excuse is flimsy”.

The GFA seeks Congress approval for an increased nomination fee, compared to the previous GHC 5000 fee in 2019 under Normalisation Committee.

The Elections Committee proposed raising the nomination fee for the Executive Council. It was previously priced at GHC 2,500 but has now been raised to GHC 15,000.

Similarly, the Regional Football Association (RFA) nomination form will now cost GHC 10,000. Other positions within the GFA structure, such as the RFA slot on the Executive Council, District Chairman, and District Executive Council, will also see adjusted fees of GHC 5,000, GHC 1,000, and GHC 5,000, respectively.

A Congress meeting has been scheduled for July 10, 2023, during which the GFA hopes to obtain the necessary approval for these proposed changes.
