Black Meteors: Coach Ibrahim Tanko should resign – Christopher Nimley

Coach Christopher Nimley has launched a scathing attack on the head coach of Ghana’s U-23 national team, Ibrahim Tanko, asking for his resignation.

Ibrahim Tanko’s men disappointingly exited the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco when they failed to defeat Guinea in a must-win match in Tangier.

This means the country’s hopes of competing in the Olympic Games have now been postponed for another four years.

In an interview with Happy FM, coach Nimley described the Black Meteors’ performance in Morocco as abysmal and painful.

“ The GFA should dissolve the entire Management Committee of the Black Meteors. I was never confident about the team because of the choice of player selection. Looking at a players like Yegbe, Simba etc, are we saying we don’t local players to compete? a player like Ernest Nuamah, we heard reports that he was injured and didn’t want to be part of the team, then with a day to the tournament, he has magically recovered and he is allowed into the team and placed in the starting eleven in our first game. What kind of coaching is this? respectfully, Ibrahim Tanko should resign, we can’t give him another four years”.

“The team lacked quality and it was evident in the tournament. Ibrahim Tanko is not a bad coach, he was just not allowed to work. The FA under the leadership of Kurt Okraku has disappointed Ghanaians and they have to go! We have suffered enough. The embarrassment is too much,” he added.

Ibrahim Tanko’s tenure as coach of the Black Meteors may also be coming to an end after he failed to qualify for the Olympic Games four years ago in Egypt.

The team arrived in Accra today with the technical team expected to submit its tournament report to the GFA’s Executive Council for its assessment.
