Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr. Akwasi Agyeman has charged Ghanaians to be intentional about creating an appealing environment for tourists and visitors into the country.

A a Grand Durbar of Chiefs and People of Ada held in Agorkpo as a commemoration of World Tourism Day, themed Tourism and Green Investments, Mr. Agyeman stated that every citizen of Ghana has a role to play in preserving the landscape of Ghana.

According to the GTA official, the theme focuses on Ghana’s participation in protecting the planet and the ability of the Tourism sector to establish prosperity in Ghana. “Green investments basically refers to the protection of the planet; We must desist from destroying our lands, we must desist from land degradation and we must also desist from destroying our water bodies.”

He appealed to the chiefs of Ada to educate the people about benefits tourism presents to the nation and encouraged the people of Ada to increase efforts put into preserving the environment.

Also present at the durbar, was the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mark Okraku Mantey, who ranked Ada as a potential enclave for the best tourist experience in Ghana. “Ada selected as the town to host the World Tourism Day celebrations in Ghana, was not a mistake; we made the right decision by picking this place for the commemoration of the World Tourism Day.” he said

World Tourism Day is celebrated globally on September 27 every year. This year’s World Tourism Day celebration was hosted in Saudi Arabia in the city of Riyahd. The United Nations World Tourism Organization and The Ghana Tourism Authority celebrate World Tourism Day under the theme, ‘Tourism and Green Investments ;Investing in People, Planet and Prosperity’ .
