Majority shareholder of Division Two club Kasalgu Arrow Heads FC, Michael Ayamga- Adongo, in a shocking revelation, took to Facebook to expose a brazen attempt at match-fixing in their recent MTN FA Cup round of 32 fixture against Karela United.
Speaking exclusively on Happy FM’s Happy Sports with Ohene Bampoe Brenya, Adongo confirmed the details he shared in his Facebook post, shedding light on the events that unfolded before the match.
According to him, this wasn’t the first time he has been approached by the unknown individual into such acts.
Ayamga- Adongo further explained the dire situation he faced when he was approached and offered a substantial sum of 50,000 Ghanaian Cedis to intentionally let his team lose by a significant margin.
Despite the tempting financial offer, Ayamga-Adongo, who emphasized his disinterest in betting companies, expressed concern for the young players under his care, especially considering the recent participation of some in the KGL tournament.
“I am looking after kids. They are minors. It was good money, but I looked at the kids and what it would mean to start teaching them these things,” he stated.
Ayamga- Adongo continued to elaborate on the situation, revealing that after rejecting the offer, he faced veiled threats from the individuals attempting to manipulate the match. They claimed to have control over referees and insisted that they could influence the game with or without Kasalgu Arrow Heads’ cooperation.
Undeterred by the threats, he revealed that he reported the incident to the authorities, expecting some level of discretion and respect in handling the matter.
However, to his dismay, the situation escalated further as the match approached. Players were approached, with the captain contacting Ayamga- Adongo on the eve of the game to inform him that the fix was in motion.
“They approached and told him. They are working on the coaches and players,” he revealed during the interview.
He expressed disappointment in the betrayal by some individuals within his own club, emphasizing the negative impact such actions could have on the young players and the sport in Ghana.
Kasalgu Arrow Heads FC succumbed to a 5-1 defeat to Karela United in the FA Cup tie.
