Unconfirmed reports indicate that opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has retained Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as running mate for the next presidential election

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the former Education Minister, previously partnered with former President Mahama during the 2020 election.

Amidst speculation surrounding potential candidates for the position, including notable figures like Julius Debrah, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, Eric Opoku, and Nathan Kofi Boakye, it was Prof. Opoku-Agyemang who emerged as the preferred choice.

The nomination process, conducted in accordance with Article 45 of the NDC Constitution, saw Mr. Mahama officially submitting his nomination for running mate to the party’s Council of Elders on February 27, 2024.

According to a statement by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Council of Elders is set to convene on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11 am to deliberate on the nomination, followed by a meeting of the National Executive Committee at 3 pm on the same day to further discuss the selection.

Mr. Kwetey expressed confidence in Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s abilities, stating, “The NDC is confident that the Running Mate will bring a wealth of experience, expertise, and dedication to our campaign.” He emphasized that her selection aligns with Mahama’s vision of “Building the Ghana We Want” and reiterated the party’s commitment to the country’s progress.

The report has been met with appreciation from NDC supporters, with Mr. Kwetey extending gratitude for their loyalty and commitment, urging everyone to unite in striving towards a brighter future for Ghana.

With Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang once again by his side, John Dramani Mahama aims to energize his campaign and present a formidable challenge in the 2024 Presidential Election.
