Leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress and MP for Builsa South Constituency, Dr. Clement Apaak has voiced concern over alleged mismanagement in Ghana’s education sector, particularly regarding the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

In an exclusive interview on the Happy Morning Show with Sefah-Danquah, the MP indicated that the call for a forensic audit underlines the urgency of investigating the allocation and utilization of funds earmarked for the flagship education program.

“We in the Minority have been asking for a forensic audit of the disbursement of resources applied to the Free SHS policy, and this is even just one issue,” he said.

He also raised additional points of contention, highlighting issues beyond the Free SHS policy. “We’ve not talked about the supply of uniforms that is also detrimental. For almost 2 years, suppliers have not been paid.”

His revelation sheds light on the challenges faced by stakeholders involved in supplying essential materials to schools, raising questions about the government’s procurement and payment processes.

Moreover, the MP delved into the matter of furniture supply, emphasizing that payments for these essential items have reportedly been outstanding for an extended period. “We haven’t also talked about the supply of furniture, not to mention other course elements that the government says they’ve adopted to pay but haven’t, including ICT fees since 2017,” he added.

Clement Apaak’s revelation reflects a growing sentiment among opposition figures and concerned citizens alike, demanding greater scrutiny of government expenditure to ensure that public funds are utilized efficiently and effectively.
