The Ghana Tourism Authority together with the Kwahu community celebrate a milestone achievement as Isaac Mensah, a local from Abetifi, takes his first solo paragliding flight from the prestigious Odweanoma Mountain.

This feat marks a significant moment for the region, gelling Kwahu’s position as a premier paragliding destination.

Isaac Mensah’s journey mirrors that of Jonathan Quaye, the first locally trained Ghanaian pilot who now guides thrill-seekers on tandem flights. Isaac’s success exemplifies the potential for Kwahu’s burgeoning paragliding scene.

Mentored by experienced pilots like Blake Daniel Pelton, Ed Stein, and Chuck Smith, Isaac’s dedication and passion have been evident since his early days assisting at launch sites.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) plays a key role in nurturing local talent. CEO Akwasi Agyeman expressed his delight, stating, “We are thrilled to see locals like Isaac embracing the sport. This signifies a step towards paragliding becoming ingrained in our culture, enriching tourism and community engagement.”

The GTA’s investments since 2017 in infrastructure and training are demonstrably paying off.

Beyond paragliding, Isaac is a well-rounded individual with a background in graphic design. His diverse skillset reflects the well-developed talent pool Kwahu possesses.

Isaac’s achievement highlights the importance of fostering local talent, a mission championed by the Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Paragliding in Ghana boasts a rich history, dating back to its introduction in 2005 by Jake Obetsebi Lamptey during the Kwahu Easter Festival.

The yearly occasion has grown to be a big attraction for thrill-seekers, establishing Odweanoma Mountain as a paragliding enthusiast’s paradise. The future of paragliding in Ghana is bright, with athletes like Isaac Mensah soaring through the skies over Kwahu.
