A major development ahead of the general elections of 2024 is that Dr. Michael Abu Sakara Foster’s political Civil Society Coalition, the National Interest Movement (NIM), and Alan John Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (M4C) have announced a grand alliance to challenge the upcoming polls.

According to a press release dated April 4, 2024, the two groups have concluded talks with various political entities and individuals to establish the ‘Alliance for Revolutionary Change’ (ARC), which will be officially launched on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

The Alliance aims to “aggressively mobilize Ghanaians from across the country, particularly the youth and women, irrespective of their religious, political, and ethnic affiliations, in a grand coalition to elect the first Independent Candidate as the President of the Republic of Ghana.”

The ARC has pledged to focus on “breaking the cycle of poverty and reset the country on a new path to prosperity” if elected to government. The alliance seeks to “end the dominance of the duopoly, the NDC and the NPP, in Ghanaian politics, two Parties which after 32 years in government, have failed to address the fundamental challenges of development in our beloved country.”

The release further stated that the ARC will work towards forming an all-inclusive Government of National Unity, with representation from various stakeholder groups and advocate for fundamental constitutional reforms, including governance, public sector accountability, natural resource management, and mindset and attitudinal change in Ghana.

This announcement comes at a time when Ghana’s political landscape has been dominated by the two major parties, the NDC and the NPP, for decades.

The formation of the ARC, led by the seasoned politicians Kyerematen and Sakara, presents a significant challenge to the traditional two-party system and promises to inject a new dynamic into the upcoming elections.
