The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says nobody should tell the NDC to trust the Electoral Commission ahead of the 2024 general elections.

According to Asiedu Nketia, trust cannot and has never been the basis of any elections in the world and that is why measurers are put in place to reduce human interventions in the process.

He said if trust is the basis for an election then there wouldn’t be any need to procure election equipment’s to clean the process and also to spend huge sums of money to organize voter registration.

“And don’t ask me about trust of Electoral Commission anymore because we all know that trust cannot be the basis of election anywhere and indeed the whole purpose of procuring equipment to reduce human interventions is because human beings cannot be trusted in elections.”

“If we all believe that we can trust ourselves then we don’t need a voter’s register, we should allow anyone who is above 18 to go to the polls on Election Day because we believe every Ghanaian is trustworthy.”

“We cannot do this because we cannot trust ourselves and that is why we resort to the use of equipment’s and IT system to help us reduce human influence,” Asiedu Nketia said at a press briefing at the party’s headquarters.
