The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Hohoe constituency has made allegations against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that the party is transporting non-citizens from neighboring Togo to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise. According to the NDC, the NPP has been transporting large groups of people in buses and pickups to register them as voters ahead of the December 7 general elections.According to Prosper Kumi, the NDC’s constituency secretary for Hohoe, a large number of individuals were transported from a community in Togo to the Ghanaian town of Wli Todzi to participate in the voter registration exercise. He alleged that approximately 155 people were registered on the first day and 199 on the second day, suggesting a coordinated effort to register non-citizens.He made additional allegations, stating that some individuals being transported to the registration center were unable to provide basic personal information, such as their date of birth or house number, and were only able to communicate in French, suggesting they may not be familiar with the local language or customs.Meanwhile, Harry Abedenego the first vice chairman of the NPP in Hohoe, dismissed the allegations as baseless and peculiar, attributing the NDC’s concerns to fear and desperation. According to him, the NDC is worried that the people of Wli Todzi will overwhelmingly support John Peter Amewu and the NPP in the upcoming elections, and are therefore making unfounded claims to discredit the voter registration process.
