Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has reaffirmed her commitment to an open and transparent electoral process in the December polls.

She urged political parties that do not win to accept the outcome in good faith.

“Surely there will be a winner and surely, there will be losers. And so we all call on our contestants to accept the outcome of the elections because we undertake and we commit to ensuring that the elections are free, they are fair, they are credible, they are transparent,” she told journalists on Wednesday, July 17, 2024”.

Two viral videos on social media appear to depict women affiliated with a political party accusing the Electoral Commission of registering voters and conducting illegal vote transfers.

The Commission has refuted these allegations, stating that the videos are misleading and false.

During the presentation of the Democracy Cup to the Electoral Commission by Parliament’s leadership, Jean Mensa reassured the public of transparent elections and urged political leaders to accept the election results.

“So like the referee of the match this afternoon we commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work. Our activities are open, as I mentioned, right from the registration through to the declaration of elections, everything is done in the full glare of the public, and nothing is hidden and we will commit to this to maintaining and ensuring that level of transparency across all aspects of our work,” she explained.

Jean Mensa also called on the parties to accept the election results once the polls are concluded.

Additionally, the Electoral Commission has announced that the 2024 Voters Exhibition Exercise will take place from August 20 to August 27, 2024.
