In a revealing interview on the popular radio show “Epa Hoa Daben” on Happy 98.9 FM, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, Member of Parliament for Pru East and former Minister of Power, firmly rejected the idea that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is relying on the harsh economic climate to gain favor with voters.

Dr. Donkor made these remarks in response to Bismark Brown’s question about the NDC’s chances of winning the general elections if they are perceived to be relying on the current government’s economic mismanagement.

“If anyone is getting that impression, then it is a wrong impression,” Dr. Donkor declared. Dr. Donkor’s remarks come at a time when economic issues are at the forefront of public discourse, with many citizens expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. His comments come as political campaigns intensify ahead of the upcoming elections.

He emphasized that the NDC is committed to addressing Ghana’s economic challenges through sustainable and long-term solutions rather than short-term populist measures. He outlined that the NDC’s strategy focuses on a detailed policy document in addition to the party’s manifesto.

Highlighting the current administration’s failures and their potential impact on any successive government, Dr. Donkor pointed out that public debt is evidently increasing, with the government allegedly concealing it through “Kwaku Ananse accounting.”

Dr. Donkor’s remarks underscore the NDC’s unwavering commitment to prudent and resilient policies. As the election 2024 approaches, his statement solidifies the party’s position and dispels any misconception about the NDC banking their electoral fortunes on the economic misfortunes.
