President Mahama orders recall of diplomatic and service passports

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure clarity and efficiency in its operations to prevent any confusion on election day.

He highlighted concerns about inaccuracies in the voter register, which was recently opened for public verification.

The NDC has called for a forensic audit or a parliamentary investigation into the voters’ register, citing deep flaws that need urgent attention.

The party’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah, expressed frustration on August 28, 2024, stating in a Facebook post that the EC failed to provide the voters’ register to the NDC in a timely manner before the exhibition exercise.

Addressing a durbar of Chiefs and people at Adjen Kotoku in the Amasaman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on August 28, 2024, Mr. Mahama emphasized the crucial role of the EC in ensuring peaceful elections in Ghana.

He criticized the EC for not performing its duties effectively, pointing out issues such as missing names, unauthorized transfers of voter registrations, and the improper registration of proxy voters without biometric verification.

He also mentioned that the names of individuals who engaged in multiple registrations still appear on the register.
Mr. Mahama stressed that the peace of the upcoming elections largely depends on the EC’s ability to address these challenges urgently.

He emphasized that the NDC is a peaceful party committed to voting peacefully. However, they will not tolerate any attempts to cheat them, just as they have no intention of cheating anyone else.

Mr. Mahama expressed confidence that if the elections are conducted fairly and transparently, the NDC will emerge victorious.
