The Twafohene of Dormaa Traditional Council who doubles as Kotodwehene, and Chief of Kofiasua, has made a passionate appeal for collaborative efforts between the government and traditional authorities to tackle the menace of illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.

Speaking to journalists after a clean-up exercise in Kofiasua, Barima Twumasi Bekoe II expressed deep concern over the devastating impact of galamsey on the country’s forest reserves, rivers, and communities. He emphasized the urgent need for the President to impose a total ban on the destructive practice to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and the environment.

He revealed his strong aversion to galamsey, highlighting his decision to prohibit its operations within his jurisdiction. He called on fellow traditional rulers to emulate his stance, protecting the nation’s future.

To effectively combat galamsey, Barima Twumasi Bekoe II stressed the importance of creating decent job opportunities for the youth, thereby reducing their vulnerability to engaging in illegal mining. He advocated for a united front between the government and traditional authorities (Nananom) to achieve this goal.

By working together, Barima Twumasi Bekoe II believes Ghana can overcome the galamsey menace, preserve its natural resources, and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
