The Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey have submitted their petition to Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
The protesters demanded the immediate end to all mining activities in the country till depleted water bodies are restored.
They also urged the Minister to initiate a nationwide restoration program for all major rivers in the country within 15 days.
“Within 15 days,the Minister should initiate a nationwide restoration program for all rivers and also put a ban on all mining activities.”
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Minister, Peter Awuah the Director of Mines at the Ministry assured the protesters that the Minister will get the petition.
“The Minister will get this petition and we thank the organizers for putting this together and we fully acknowledge their concerns.”
