The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to holding individuals accountable for any misuse or theft of public funds under the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration.
He believes this stance has contributed to President Akufo-Addo’s initial reluctance to commit to a power transition involving him.
Mr. Mahama suggested that President Nana Akufo-Addo seems to be coming to terms with the likelihood of his New Patriotic Party (NPP) facing defeat in the upcoming December 7 elections.
He made these remarks during a campaign rally in Biakoye, located in the Oti Region, on November 4, as he continued his nationwide tour to rally voter support.
He interpreted recent comments from President Akufo-Addo as a shift in attitude, suggesting that the President may be preparing for a transition of power to the NDC. Referencing Akufo-Addo’s recent pledge to ensure a peaceful transition, Mahama suggested this assurance reflects an implicit acknowledgment that the NPP could lose.
Highlighting the need for accountability, Mr. Mahama urged Ghanaians to vote for the NDC, asserting that his administration would hold all individuals accountable for misuse of public funds. He argued that Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s candidate, would likely not pursue such accountability.
