Coalition of Unpaid Teachers calls on GES to take immediate action on delayed salaries

The Coalition of Unpaid Teachers and Arrears is urging the Ghana Education Service (GES) to pay long-overdue salaries owed to teachers who were hired permanently in 2023.

These teachers report that administrative delays in processing their employment agreements have left them without pay. Although their employment status was confirmed five months ago, they say progress on processing their salaries has been slow.
The group indicated that teachers across the country are experiencing significant financial hardship as they await their payments.

Following their engagement for permanent employment last year, these teachers have not received any compensation for the work they’ve completed.

They emphasized that delays in issuing staff IDs and completing other administrative processes have prevented salary disbursements, leaving some teachers without their monthly income. They noted that the financial burden has taken a toll on both teachers and their families, affecting their well-being and diminishing morale, which, in turn, has impacted their classroom performance.

The group has formally appealed to the Director-General of GES, requesting an expedited payment process. They have set a deadline of November 18, 2024, for GES to respond, cautioning that failure to act may prompt them to explore further measures to secure their salaries. They stress that public awareness and support are essential in ensuring a prompt resolution to their situation.
