US elections: Harris, Trump tie in first vote on election day

Election day in the United States of America arrived on Tuesday November 5, with over 77 million people having already cast their ballots.

Running to become the 47th US president are Democrat Kamala Harris, Republican Donald J. Trump, Independent and third-party Cornel West, Jill Stein.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump tied in an early vote from Dixville Notch, a small New Hampshire town that traditionally votes at midnight. Both candidates received three votes, a stark change from 2020 when President Biden won all votes in the town.

Trump has been pushing hard in battleground states like Pennsylvania, emphasizing his familiar themes on the economy and security. Meanwhile, Harris continues to campaign energetically, stressing democratic values and unity as Election Day unfolds.

Meanwhile, concerns about vote counting and potential issues like mass challenges to mail-in ballots have already emerged, particularly in Pennsylvania. The FBI has also warned voters of false claims of high terror threat within the election period – a move described by senior Cyber security official Cait Conley as orchestrated by foreign actors to distort the smooth running of the elections.
