Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reprint presidential ballot papers for the 2024 elections, raising concern over the inclusion of the late Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Akua Donkor, on the ballot.

Kofi Akpaloo argues that keeping her image could affect election results, as her appearance on the ballot might confuse voters and lead to unintended outcomes.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, November 11, he noted that if a new GFP candidate had been approved, the EC would likely have reprinted the ballots to reflect this change. According to him, reprinting the ballots in this case is equally essential to preserving the integrity of the electoral process and avoiding potential disputes over vote counting.

He highlighted that the calculation of votes in presidential elections is based on the percentage secured by each candidate, making it crucial that only valid, living candidates appear on the ballot.

According to him, allowing votes to be cast for a deceased candidate could potentially skew percentages and lead to post-election disputes. Mr. Akpaloo emphasized the importance of preventing any situation in which candidates might challenge the results on these grounds, urging the EC to act promptly by removing Akua Donkor’s image from the ballot.
