The United Nations has reported that four Ghanaian peacekeepers sustained injuries after a rocket struck a UN base in the Ramyeh area of southern Lebanon.

According to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), this attack marked the third incident in a series of rocket strikes on the same day.

The UN also detailed the destruction of another base in the southern village of Shama, where intense clashes have been ongoing between Hezbollah and the Israeli military.

UN Peacekeeping Chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix expressed deep concern over the frequent attacks on UN peacekeeping facilities amidst the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

“I remain concerned about the ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and the Israeli Defence Forces. If military activities are carried out in the vicinity of a UN position, then that puts UN peacekeepers in danger and at risk. This is what we impress upon all parties,” Lacroix stated. He also reminded all parties of their obligation to safeguard the safety and security of UN personnel and property.

UNIFIL announced that investigations have been launched into each attack and that the Lebanese army has been informed of the incidents.

These attacks occurred just one day after an Israeli airstrike targeted Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, hitting an area near the UN headquarters, parliament, and several embassies.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that at least five people were killed and 31 others injured in the airstrike.

Since late September, Israel has significantly intensified its bombardment of Lebanon, vowing to cripple Hezbollah and halt the group’s attacks on Israeli territory.
