YFM, the number one leading youth and urban radio station in Ghana, has partnered with US based Captain Planet Foundation to organize a training program for 50 Ghanaian youth on plastic policy. The training, scheduled for December 14th, 2024 at Airport West Hotel, aims to equip young people with the skills and knowledge to advocate for environmental policy change and take action against plastic pollution.

Latoya Henry, President of the Captain Planet Foundation, emphasized the importance of empowering young people to become agents of change. “We focus on empowering young people because they are the ones who will inherit the planet. They have the innovation, energy, and fresh perspectives to address environmental challenges. Our foundation has funded over 3700 projects worldwide, impacting almost 2 million young people. We believe in the power of young people to effect change and are committed to supporting them. We are excited to partner with YFM to reach more young people in Ghana and support their efforts to create a sustainable future.”

At the launch, which took place at the YFM studios at Legon City Mall on November 28th, Latoya Henry added, “We are committed to equipping young people with the tools and resources they need to create positive change in their communities. This training program is just the beginning, and we look forward to seeing the impact that these young people will make.”

Dr. Timothy Karikari; a Board Member of the Captain Planet Foundation and leader of the team in Ghana highlighted the need for collective action. “We are implementing the tenets of the cartoon and sustainable practices, just like the Captain Planet cartoon taught us over 2 decades ago years ago. We are a great team initiative, backed by ethical problem solvers. Our goal is to support young people in creating sustainable solutions and advocating for meaningful policy change.”

Erskine Amo Whyte (Rev Erskine), Deputy Programmes Manager of YFM, explained why YFM is supporting this initiative. “We believe in the power of young people to effect change. This training will provide them with the skills and resources to create campaigns that will make a difference in their local communities. As a radio station, we are committed to using our platform to raise awareness about environmental issues and support initiatives that promote sustainability.”

Interested young persons were directed to apply via https://planeteeralliance.com/policytraining/ or send a WhatsApp message to 0202222098 for further directions. The panelist entreated Ghanaians to benefit from the free training and join the Ghana Planeteer Movement and Planeteer Alliance to benefit from the many opportunities such as capacity building, funding for projects and leadership development.
