The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has introduced a non pre-approval visa waiver for tourists during the festive season, aiming to boost tourist numbers and provide an opportunity for visitors to experience Ghana’s flagship program, December in GH.

In a recent statement, GTA described the initiative as a progressive policy that will play a pivotal role in enhancing the vibrancy of this year’s December in GH celebrations.

GTA emphasized that this new visa waiver reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector and reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a top global destination for travelers and investors. “Designed to simplify entry, this visa waiver makes it easier than ever for travelers to experience Ghana’s rich culture, vibrant festivals, and unforgettable events featured in the December in GH calendar,” part of the statement read.

Chief Executive Officer of GTA Akwasi Agyeman highlighted the importance of this policy, encouraging tourists to take full advantage of the opportunity. He described it as a unique chance for travelers to immerse themselves in Ghana’s culture and heritage through the exciting lineup of December in GH events.

The policy, developed through collaboration between GTA, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ghana Immigration Service, has been officially enacted. The Ministry of Transport has directed all airlines operating in Ghana to update their systems to accommodate the new directive.

Since its inception in 2019, December in GH has positioned Ghana as a premier holiday destination, attracting visitors eager to explore its vibrant arts, culture, and entertainment scene. Each year, an exciting lineup of events from November to January of the following year are scheduled to give tourists an unforgettable experience.
