Rwanda, following a 42-day monitoring of the last patient diagnosed with the Marburg virus, has officially declared the outbreak over in the East African country.
The announcement was made by Health Minister Sabin Nsanzimana during a press conference on Friday.
Rwanda detected its first cases of the disease in mid-September of this year.
The viral disease begins with hemorrhagic fever, invades multiple organs, and damages the cardiovascular system, eventually leading to death.
According to reports from Rwanda’s health ministry, there were 66 confirmed cases, including 15 deaths and 51 recoveries.
