A Tesla Cybertruck exploded in flames at the valet area of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday evening, killing the driver and injuring seven others.
Reports indicate that the FBI has launched an investigation into the explosion near the property associated with President-Elect Trump’s business empire. Authorities are analyzing the evidence to determine whether the incident was an act of terrorism.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk clarified that the Cybertruck itself did not cause the explosion and, in fact, helped mitigate its impact. “The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. The Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken,” he stated.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Jeremy Schwartz told reporters that it is still unclear whether the explosion constitutes a terrorist act. “I know everybody’s interested in that word and trying to see if we can say, ‘Hey, this is a terrorist attack.’ That is our goal, and that’s what we’re working to establish,” he explained.
News updates have shown footage revealing explosives stashed in the trunk of the Cybertruck. Investigations are ongoing as authorities piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This follows a terrorist incident which occurred just hours after a man drove a truck into crowds of New Year’s Day revelers in New Orleans, killing 15.
