For many expectant mothers in rural Ghana, access to basic maternal healthcare, including ultrasound scans, remains a challenge. Without these essential services, complications often go undetected, putting both mothers and babies at risk. To bridge this gap, the Telecel Ghana Foundation, through its flagship Rural Ultrasound Scan initiative, provided free ultrasound screenings in Damongo, Savannah Region, offering over 100 pregnant women life-saving maternal care at no cost.

In collaboration with medical experts from the Ghana Health Service and the Divine Mother and Child (DMAC) Foundation, the initiative ensured that expectant mothers not only received essential prenatal scans but also gained critical health education to guide them through safe pregnancies.”I have never had an ultrasound before, and today, I saw my baby for the first time,” shared Fati Mohammed, an expectant mother. “I now understand more about my pregnancy and feel more confident about taking care of myself and my baby.”

Understanding that maternal health extends beyond medical checkups, the Telecel Ghana Foundation also provided welcome packages filled with essential baby care items. These thoughtful gestures aimed to ease the journey of expectant and new mothers, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment that no woman should have to face motherhood unprepared.

The initiative was warmly received, with many mothers expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to access expert prenatal care and medical guidance. On-site specialists also provided education on nutrition, prenatal care, and the importance of regular checkups, equipping women with the knowledge to take charge of their health.
“At Telecel Ghana Foundation, we believe healthcare should be accessible to all, regardless of ones geographic location,” said Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Foundation, Sustainability, and External Communications at Telecel Ghana. “The Rural Ultrasound Scan initiative is one of our flagship programs designed to bridge the healthcare gap in underserved communities. By bringing maternal care directly to expectant mothers, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of women and their babies.”

As the Telecel Ghana Foundation continues to expand the Rural Ultrasound Scan initiative nationwide, this effort in Damongo serves as a reminder of the urgent need for sustained maternal healthcare support. Through programs like these, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that every mother, no matter where she lives, has access to quality, life-saving prenatal care.
