The Member of Parliament for Biakoye Constituency, Jean-Marie Formadi, has accused the Minority in Parliament of being behind the fire outbreak at the Adum Market in Kumasi.

Her remarks were in response to allegations made by the MP for Subin, Kofi Obiri Yeboah, who had attributed the Adum Market fire to dumsor.

According to her it was premature to conclude the cause of the fires when no official report had been released.

She suggested that the Minority’s quick attribution of the incidents to dumsor raised suspicions that they might have a hand in the outbreak.

“Mr. Speaker, this is a very serious disaster that we must all think about as a nation. Our women are the majority in the markets, and I am surprised that some are quick to determine the cause of the fire outbreak without any official report.

This makes us suspect that our people on the other side may be behind these fire outbreaks,” she stated.

The Biakoye MP also defended President John Dramani Mahama, highlighting his dedication to market infrastructure development for traders.

She refuted claims linking the fire outbreak to the previous administration’s policies.

“The dumsor that we are all experiencing now is the dumsor that has been inherited from the past government.

Mr. Speaker and this is the dumsor that the current government is working hard to solve,” she noted.

She stressed the need for proactive measures to prevent future fire incidents.

She called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and local authorities to conduct thorough inspections of electrical connections in markets, citing the prevalence of illegal wiring as potential fire hazards.
