WAEC to release 2025 BECE private candidate results today The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates will be released by the end of today, Friday, September 5. Speaking at a media briefing, WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, confirmed the release timeline and shared key statistics. “A total of 1,661 private candidates, 858 males and 803 females, registered for this year’s BECE. This marks a 19.49% increase compared to last year,” he stated. According to John Kapi, the provisional results for school candidates were released earlier on August 23, with 603,328 students participating from 20,395 schools. WAEC noted a 5.99% rise in school candidate numbers. Kapi also addressed examination integrity, saying, “Candidates who infringed on the rules governing the conduct of the examination were appropriately sanctioned following investigations and the advice of the Council’s relevant committee.”

Akufo-Addo’s centralized leadership led to NPP’s 2024 defeat – Chairman Dollar

The Greater Accra Regional Second Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Eric Nartey Yeboah affectionately known as Chairman Dollar has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections to the centralization of power under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his inner circle.

In an interview monitored by Happyghana.com, Mr. Nartey Yeboah argued that the concentration of authority in the hands of the former President and his close associates sidelined the party’s leadership, significantly contributing to the NPP’s electoral loss.

He explained that Akufo-Addo and his inner circle wielded power as though the party had no role in electing him, alienating the party from key decision-making processes. Most crucial decisions, he noted, were made solely at the Presidency without adequate consultation with party leadership.

He further asserted that some of the President’s appointments, along with the perceived arrogance of certain appointees, ultimately led to the party’s downfall.

He pointed out that many of these appointees showed loyalty only to the appointing authority, disregarding the party that brought them to power. As an example, he cited the appointment of Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), alleging that Danquah believed to be a nephew of the Executive Secretary to the former President returned to London after the NPP lost power, underscoring a lack of commitment to the party’s cause.

Mr. Nartey Yeboah emphasized that it is now the responsibility of the party leadership to rebuild the NPP and uphold its core values ahead of the 2028 elections.

He also urged party supporters to distance themselves from appointees who may be held accountable by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, stating that such individuals acted in their personal capacities rather than in the interest of the party.
