The Chairperson of the National Premix Fuel Committee, Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor, has underscored the urgent need for decisive action to guarantee the fair and equitable distribution of premix fuel across the country. He described the committee’s responsibility as “onerous,” citing the far-reaching impact that distribution challenges have on rural and coastal communities.

Speaking during the inauguration of the National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC), he stated that countless local economies depend heavily on the timely and affordable supply of premix fuel, which serves as a lifeline for fishing, transportation, commerce, and even healthcare services in waterway-dependent areas. He revealed that close to a million people across approximately 70 districts rely on this essential commodity.

He called on committee members to respond swiftly to issues raised by the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, urging a hands-on approach that involves engaging local stakeholders, monitoring distribution networks, and enforcing fair pricing systems. Defeamekpor also stressed the need for strict compliance with existing regulations to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of funds generated from premix fuel sales.

“We must guarantee equitable distribution and fair pricing. At the same time, we must uphold the laws and ensure funds meant for community development are properly utilized,” he stated.
