President John Dramani Mahama has announced that all government appointees will forfeit their one month salary and donate it to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

Also known as Mahama cares, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is an initiative aimed at easing the financial burden of medical care for Ghanaians, particularly those suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses such as kidney disease, liver disease, hypertension, and cardiac conditions.

The fund is part of President Mahama’s broader health and social protection agenda in his second term.

Speaking at the launch government’s code of conduct for appointees at the Jubilee House, President Mahama revealed that all appointees will donate one month salary to the fund as he had already donated his six months’ salary to the fund.

He also revealed that some appointees will donate four months of salaries because they have been sanctioned for not declaring their assets.

“I have been told by the Auditor General that some of you haven’t declared your assets like I instructed on February 18, 2025. Like I said earlier, all appointees will donate one month salary to the Mahama Care Fund but those of you who didn’t declare your assets will donate four months because you will forfeit three months salaries because of that,” president Mahama said.
