NYA boss urges teacher trainees to uphold discipline and integrity

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Abdulai Ayariga Esq., has called on teacher trainees to embody discipline, integrity, and exemplary behavior, emphasizing that teachers are more than educators, they are living role models who significantly influence the attitudes and values of young people.

Addressing participants at the 29th Annual Delegates’ Congress of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) in Aburi, Mr. Ayariga reminded the trainees that their impact stretches far beyond the classroom.

“Your life in itself is a living example. You are a walking role model to society and must live up to that expectation,” he said, noting that students often emulate their teachers in all aspects of life.

He also expressed concern over the increasing instances of unprofessional behavior by teachers on social media, warning that such conduct erodes public respect for the teaching profession.

Mr. Ayariga used the occasion to highlight key initiatives under the NYA, such as the recently launched National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP), aimed at equipping thousands of young people with practical skills and mentorship opportunities. He encouraged the trainees to take full advantage of this initiative.

He also introduced the forthcoming Ghana Youth Leadership Fellowship, designed to develop responsible, visionary youth leaders through structured training and mentorship.

Mr. Ayariga urged the trainees to expand their aspirations beyond traditional teaching roles.

“As student leaders, I challenge you not just to think of your future classrooms, but also to envision yourselves as changemakers—leading reform in your schools, communities, and even at the policy level,” he urged.

He encouraged them to build networks, amplify their voices, and remain committed to shaping a better future for Ghana.
