Aziz Mohammed’s journey from Ghana to West Texas A\&M has been nothing short of inspiring. This year, his hard work and remarkable talent paid off in a big way—he was named the 2025 winner of the Cap Shelton Award, recognized as the Lone Star Conference’s Outdoor Men’s Outstanding Track Athlete of the Year.

The Ghanaian-born athlete has put together an extraordinary season, highlighted by record-breaking performances and dominant victories on the track. His defining moment came at the 2025 Bryan Clay Invitational, where he broke a 47-year-old school record in the men’s 1,500m with an incredible time of 3:40.29, surpassing a mark that had stood since 1978.

Mohammed’s upward trajectory began long before this milestone.

In 2024, he clinched the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships gold medal in the 1,500m, narrowly edging out his closest competitor by just 0.12 seconds in a thrilling finish.

His indoor campaign that year was equally impressive, with a memorable win at the Corky Classic, where he clocked 4:09.84 in the mile—ranking eighth in West Texas A\&M history.

The accolades didn’t stop there. At the Lone Star Outdoor Championships, Mohammed’s unmatched consistency and dominance earned him the Most Outstanding Male Athlete title after sweeping gold in both the 800m and 1,500m events.

Aziz Mohammed’s journey is not just one of talent, but of resilience, determination, and continuous growth.
