Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Fiona Braka as the new Country Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Ghana.

The Minister in a post on his X page, expressed satisfaction with Dr. Braka’s appointment, noting that it comes at a time when the government is focused on enhancing healthcare delivery in the country.

Dr. Fiona Braka is a seasoned public health expert from Uganda, with over two decades of experience in disease prevention and control, public health emergencies, and immunization programs across Africa.

He highlighted that Dr. Braka brings a wealth of experience that, when coupled with Ghana’s unwavering support, will yield positive results. “We have high confidence in her capacity, track record, and targets for Ghana,” said Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The Minister emphasized the importance of multilateralism in building a sustainable nation, particularly in the context of achieving universal health coverage. “Ghana shall remain unflinchingly committed to multilateralism and will work with the WHO to achieve universal health coverage, health-related SDGs, and the President’s vision for Mahama Cares and improved health outcomes,” he stated.
