The Ghana Police Service has intercepted a large consignment of Ghanaian currency being transported in a commercial vehicle en route to the Ashanti Region.

In a press release issued and signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit of the Volta Regional Police Command, the interception occurred on June 3, 2025, at approximately 4:45 p.m. during a routine snap check at Juapong.

Police officers stopped a Ford Transit Bus that was found to be loaded with sixty-eight (68) fertilizer bags containing one cedi notes and coins. The total amount of money recovered was estimated at GH¢1,021,700.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Edward Ansah, was immediately taken into custody. During police interrogation, Ansah disclosed that he had been contracted by an unidentified man in Kumasi to transport the money from Ho in the Volta Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The suspect is currently assisting police with investigations, and authorities have assured the public that updates will be provided as the case progresses.

The motive and source of the funds remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether any criminal activities are involved.
