The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has called on the newly inaugurated Governing Board of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to take decisive action against illicit drug trafficking in Ghana.

Addressing the 15-member Board during its swearing-in ceremony, Muntaka described drug trafficking as a transnational organized crime with far-reaching consequences, particularly for Ghana’s youth. He underscored the government’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and professionalism in the ongoing battle against narcotics.

He also charged the Board’s Chairman, COP (Rtd.) Bright Oduro, with fostering unity and effective collaboration among members to ensure the Commission functions at its best.

In response, COP (Rtd.) Oduro pledged the Board’s dedication to its mandate, noting that public education on the dangers of illegal drug use would be intensified. He assured the public of the Commission’s commitment to fulfilling its duties with diligence and purpose.

The new Board is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Ghana’s anti-narcotics strategy and safeguarding communities from the threats posed by drug abuse and trafficking.
