Former Minister of Works and Housing, Lawyer Samuel Atta Kyea, has praised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership for scheduling its flagbearer election for January 2026 to lead the party into the 2028 general election. As the former Abuakwa South MP, he believes this early election will address internal party bitterness and apathy, fostering unity ahead of the December 7, 2028, national polls.

Atta Kyea stated that the decision allows ample time for the chosen flagbearer to prepare and strategize against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). He emphasized that the early timeline ensures all aspirants have equal opportunities to campaign, with delegates—solely from the NPP—deciding the outcome, encouraging fearless participation.

Strongly endorsing former Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia for the flagbearer role, Atta Kyea described him as a well-known, experienced, and capable candidate. “God has gifted Ghana with a wise, civilized economist who served under President Akufo-Addo for years. His experience ensures he won’t repeat past mistakes if elected in 2028,” he said.

Addressing religious biases, Atta Kyea dismissed claims that a Muslim cannot lead Ghana, noting, “We’ve had Christian presidents who underperformed. God can use Dr. Bawumia to transform Ghana’s fortunes if he wins in 2028.”
