President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to take decisive action against road contractors implicated in alleged double payments during the administration of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Speaking during his “Thank You” tour, President Mahama revealed that an audit by the Auditor-General had uncovered discrepancies in payment records involving multiple infrastructure firms.

He added that, the findings suggest that some contractors received unjustified payments from both the Road Fund and the Ministry of Finance.

“Contractors found to have received multiple payments without justification will face legal consequences. The discrepancies revealed by the audit will be addressed strictly according to the law.”

He was quick to add that, only contractors cleared by the audit will be permitted to resume work on stalled infrastructure projects.

The president reassured stakeholders that government is committed to clearing contractor arrears and revitalising unfinished roadworks that were abandoned under the previous administration.

During his Thank You tour of the Eastern Region, President Mahama met with traditional leaders and residents to discuss development plans, emphasizing his administration’s intent to finish abandoned projects and introduce new initiatives.

Among the highlights of the tour was the announcement of a modern bridge to be constructed over the Afram River.

The bridge he mentioned is part of the government’s “Big Push” initiative and is aimed at easing transportation burdens for farming communities who rely on the route to access markets.

“We are committed to finishing what was left undone and bringing new development that will transform lives, especially for those in our farming communities”.
