Long before the passing of Ghanaian music icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, his legendary status had already been firmly established. His influence on African music, culture, and generations of fans made him a celebrated figure whose impact transcended borders and time.

One of the most memorable tributes to his career came in 2018, when African Legends Night, Ghana’s premier celebration of African music icons, honored him. The event, which coincided with his 54th birthday, celebrated Daddy Lumba as a living legend, recognizing his contribution to highlife and contemporary Ghanaian music.

The tribute was not just a celebration of fame, but of legacy and gratitude. In a heartfelt moment on stage, Daddy Lumba shared a powerful message with the audience,

“Thank you so much, Ghana, and God bless you for your prayers over the years which have played a pivotal role in keeping me alive. What I want to say on this special day is that let us remain united. A time will come when I, Kojo Fosu, will be no more. So let us love one another because life is fleeting.”

His words, now more poignant than ever, captured the spirit of an artist deeply connected to his people and mindful of his place in history.

Known for timeless hits like “Aben Wo Ha”, “Theresa”, “Yentie Obiaa”, “Sika”, and “Playboy”, Daddy Lumba’s music continues to resonate with fans across generations. His unique sound, lyrical storytelling, and commanding presence helped define Ghana’s modern music era.

African Legends Night remains a symbolic platform that celebrates African excellence and honors artists whose work have shaped the continent’s musical and cultural identity. Daddy Lumba’s unforgettable appearance in 2018 stands as one of the event’s most iconic moments, affirming his place in the pantheon of African music legends.

As his music lives on, African Legends Night continues to bridge the past and present ensuring that the melodies of artists like Daddy Lumba never fade from the heart of Africa and beyond.
