President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated Ghana’s new Air Navigation Services Building and launched the Advanced Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems, aimed at improving air safety and strengthening border security.

Speaking at the official inauguration, he emphasized the importance of air safety and security for the country.

“Our air traffic controllers and system engineers will now operate in a logically advanced environment.

He reiterated that, API would enhance safety, reduce delays, and improve coordination in the Accra Flight Information Region.

The API and PNR systems allow real-time access to passenger data, helping security agencies identify risks, streamline customs, and support counter-terrorism efforts.

President Mahama added that, “Ghana joins a growing list of countries using technology to protect borders and improve mobility. Information is our first line of defense.”

Aligned with ICAO Annex 9, the systems provide a digital platform for other critical services and reinforce Ghana’s role in global aviation security.

“We must invest not just in terminals and runways, but in the backbone of air travel,” Mahama added.
