Chairman of the Okada Riders Association National Board, Mohammed Tijani, has commended the Mahama-led administration for its decision to legalise commercial motorbike operations (Okada) in Ghana.

Speaking during a community engagement with riders in Accra, Mr. Tijani described the initiative as a “brilliant idea” with the potential to significantly reduce youth unemployment and contribute meaningfully to the national economy.

He noted that the government’s plan to regulate Okada operations would also help address safety concerns and reduce the high rate of motorbike-related accidents.

“With proper oversight and safety training, the risks associated with Okada can be greatly minimised,” he said.

Mr. Tijani emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the Okada Riders Association to ensure the successful implementation of the policy. He said such a partnership would improve the welfare of riders and streamline operations within the sector.

He urged all Okada riders to comply with the safety guidelines introduced by the government. “Compliance will not only protect lives but also help build a strong, respectful relationship between riders and law enforcement,” he added.
