In a solemn address during the lifting of the ban on noise-making ahead of this year’s Homowo celebrations, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, La Shikitele, and Supreme Head of Nmati Abonase Quarter expressed deep sorrow over the recent tragedy that has shaken the community and the nation at large.

“It’s a recent happening and a tragedy for the nation,” Nii Adjei Koofeh IV said, his voice heavy with emotion. “We are all devastated and disheartened by what happened . It wasn’t something we expected, especially during our sacred Homowo period.”

The incident, which occurred just days before the festival meant to celebrate triumph over hardship, has cast a shadow over preparations.

The chief speaking to veteran journalist, Victor Morrison described the timing as “very disheartening,” noting that those affected were vibrant individuals who had dedicated themselves to national service.

“They were young, promising people working tirelessly for the betterment of Ghana. They had just taken office a few months ago and were full of vision and energy. Their careers were only beginning, and they were sacrificing for our nation. To lose them like this is something no one should ever be happy about.”

Nii Adjei Koofeh IV extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, urging the community to stand in solidarity and prayer.

“We send our deepest sympathies to their families. We pray that God gives them strength to endure this pain. We also pray for our leaders, especially the one who has been followed closely by this tragedy. May God grant him the fortitude to carry on,”he said.

The chief called for a thorough investigation into the incident, emphasizing that accountability and preventive measures are essential to avoid future occurrences.

“Let this be a lesson to us all. The right investigations must be done so we understand what truly caused this tragedy. And then, we must put in place the right measures to ensure it never happens again”

As the ban on noise-making lifts and the Homowo festivities begin, the people of La do so with heavy hearts honouring tradition while mourning a painful loss.
