National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team member Nichiren Appiah Buadi says the outcome of the Akwatia by-election is a clear message from the people for jobs, infrastructure, and better opportunities.
Speaking on Epa Ho A Daben on Happy 98.9 FM after the results were declared, Buadi stressed:
“The people of Akwatia have spoken not just with their votes, but with their expectations. They want real development.”
The by-election saw the NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo emerge victorious with 18,199 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who polled 15,235 votes. The Liberal Party of Ghana’s Owusu Patrick followed with 82 votes, while 303 ballots were rejected.
The poll was held following the passing of the sitting MP, Ernest Kumi of the NPP. With Akwatia historically being a keenly contested seat, the NDC is interpreting its victory as a mandate to deliver on key promises and fast-track development.
