Residents of the Atwima Mponua district are voicing increasing concerns over a lack of essential social amenities and limited job opportunities, despite expressing initial hopes for the current administration. Residents are specifically calling for urgent improvements to sanitation and water services, citing inadequate provision as a major factor impacting their quality of life.

Adding to their worries is the lack of employment opportunities within the district. Many residents, particularly young people, have been forced to rely on “Okada” as a means of earning a living. However, this option, according to the residents, puts them at serious risks. Adding that a recent accident involving two motorcycle riders claimed their lives.

The residents are also urging the government to accelerate the launch of bauxite operations in the area. According to them, they see it as a potential solution to the district’s unemployment issues.

In response to these pressing concerns, the Atwima Mponua District Chief Executive (DCE), Ishak Ibrahim, has unveiled an extensive development plan aimed at addressing critical community needs and enhancing local infrastructure.

Ishak Ibrahim, addressing the residents’ concerns, said, “This development plan is carefully tailored to ensure that the immediate needs and concerns of the people are readily addressed.”

The initiatives, include the establishment of a new clinic to improve healthcare access, alongside efforts to bolster existing services such as the police station, educational institutions, and fire service.

The DCE reaffirmed his commitment to supporting vocational training initiatives for the youth, which will be further enhanced by government financial assistance, empowering young people with vital skills for future employment. He said a key component of his agenda is the anticipated launch of bauxite operations within the district, adding that this venture will create significant job opportunities for local youth to help address the unemployment concerns.
