Kasapin Residents Cry for Urgent Repair of Deathtrap Wooden Bridge

Residents of Kasapin in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region are appealing to government and local authorities to urgently repair their deteriorating wooden bridge, which they describe as a deathtrap.

The community says the road linking Kasapin to Akwaboahene has never seen any maintenance, leaving it in a deplorable state for decades. The only wooden bridge connecting Kasapin to Jinijin, Peter-Krom, and other nearby communities was built by residents years ago, but it has now become dangerously weak.

According to residents, the road is so narrow and dilapidated that only heavy trucks can ply it, while smaller vehicles are unable to use the stretch. Many commuters are forced to rely on motorcycles for daily transport.

The situation worsens during the rainy season when the road becomes muddy, and in the dry season, it turns excessively dusty, exposing residents to serious health risks. Pregnant women are particularly affected, with reports of miscarriages linked to the poor condition of the road.

Farmers in the area also fear dire consequences if the bridge collapses completely. They warn that transporting farm produce to markets would become impossible, potentially leading to food shortages and hunger in the district.

The residents are calling on their Member of Parliament, Haruna Mohammed, the District Chief Executive, Joseph Akparibo, and all relevant authorities to intervene before the bridge gives way.
