President John Dramani Mahama has called on newly appointed Appeals Court Judges to uphold the principles of justice and integrity amid growing public scrutiny of the judiciary.
At a ceremony held on Thursday, October 2, Mahama swore in 21 High Court Judges elevated to the appellate bench. Addressing the gathering, he acknowledged the increasing criticism of judicial decisions but framed it as a sign of public engagement rather than disillusionment.
“Criticism of judgments is not the end of hope it is the evidence of hope,” Mahama stated. “It shows that Ghanaians still believe in the courts, that justice still matters, and that verdicts have meaning in their lives.”
While encouraging open dialogue, the President cautioned against allowing public debate to devolve into cynicism, warning that such erosion of trust could undermine the judiciary’s credibility.
Among the newly appointed Justices is Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs. The list also includes:
