Kremlin expresses optimism in Russia-US efforts to end Ukraine war

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov has dismissed claims that peace efforts between Russia and the United States over the Ukraine conflict have stalled, insisting that diplomatic engagement remains active.

His remarks, reported by state news agency TASS, came a day after Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov declared that the momentum from the August 15 Trump-Putin summit in Anchorage had “largely been exhausted,” blaming Ukraine’s European allies for derailing progress.

“Claims that the Anchorage momentum is fading, or that the momentum has been exhausted, are completely incorrect,” Ushakov countered. “We continue to work with the Americans based on what was agreed upon between the presidents in Anchorage.”

The Anchorage meeting produced no major breakthrough, and the war — now dragging into its fourth year — continues despite mounting international pressure. While Moscow insists it remains open to diplomacy, it maintains that military operations will continue if no peace deal is reached.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of using negotiations as a cover to prolong the war, saying he has “no real intention” to end the conflict.
