President John Dramani Mahama has joined President Xi Jinping in Beijing, China, to commemorate 65 years of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, celebrating decades of partnership and shared progress.

The commemoration coincided with the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, which President Mahama is attending as part of his official engagements in China.

President Xi Jinping noted that this year marks a significant milestone in the enduring friendship between the two nations one nurtured by the visionary leadership of their forebears. He reaffirmed China’s continued support for Ghana’s modernization efforts and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation across various sectors.

“China stands ready to work with Ghana to elevate our cooperation and contribute to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era,” President Xi stated.

Over the years, the relationship between Ghana and China has resulted in several joint projects, particularly in the areas of climate action and carbon neutrality. These initiatives are being championed by Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, who has reaffirmed China’s global leadership in the transition to clean energy.

During the Ghana-China Climate Summit 2025 held in Accra last month, Ambassador Tong Defa reiterated Beijing’s commitment to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, highlighting the significant progress made so far.
