The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has referred the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice to the Appointments Committee for vetting and subsequent report to the House for consideration.
Addressing Members of Parliament during the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic on Tuesday, October 21, Speaker Bagbin announced that his office had received a formal communication from President John Dramani Mahama introducing Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as the nominee for the position.
He urged all Members of Parliament to attend the Committee’s public hearing to observe the proceedings, noting that while they may not have the right to vote, their presence is encouraged.
The Speaker further assured the House that the vetting process would be conducted in strict accordance with the laws and procedures governing the country.
He added that Parliament would be given ample time to deliberate and assist the President in ensuring that public confidence in the arms of government is strengthened and upheld.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s nomination has therefore been officially referred to the Appointments Committee for consideration and subsequent report to the plenary.
