CSA warns public over surge in fake social media accounts impersonating Ghana Armed Forces

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has cautioned the public against a growing number of fraudulent social media accounts impersonating the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and its personnel, following the commencement of the 2025 enlistment and recruitment exercise.

In a public alert issued by the Authority, it revealed that eighty-six (86) fake accounts have been detected in the past week alone, all engaging in recruitment scams.

The CSA said its investigations show that these fraudulent accounts use the logos, images, and identities of legitimate GAF officers to deceive unsuspecting job seekers.

According to the CSA, the perpetrators post fake recruitment advertisements to lure victims into making payments for supposed enlistment items such as medical exams, background checks, uniforms, and training materials.

Some victims are also issued counterfeit selection letters and asked to submit scanned copies of their identity documents, which are later used for identity theft.

“The victims are often instructed to report to training or induction locations, only to discover that the recruitment was a scam,” the statement said.

The Authority noted that it is working with social media platforms to identify and take down the fraudulent accounts while further investigations are ongoing.

The CSA has urged the public to disregard any messages or posts advertising recruitment into the security services unless verified through official channels.

It advised job seekers to rely only on trusted government websites such as https://apply.mil.gh for legitimate information on GAF recruitment.

The Authority further warned against clicking suspicious links, paying for job applications or training, or sharing personal identification details with unverified recruiters.

Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious accounts or online recruitment scams to the CSA’s 24-hour Cybersecurity/Cybercrime Incident Reporting Point of Contact via call or text to 0501603111, WhatsApp, or email at report@csa.gov.gh.
