The Food Suppliers Association of Ghana in the Middle Belt has welcomed the recent comments by Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, saying his statement vindicates their long-standing concerns over unpaid debts owed by the National Food Buffer Stock Company.
According to the Association’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Iddrisu Zakari, members have been struggling to recover payments for food supplies made to senior high schools as far back as 2017.
He alleged that the Buffer Stock Company has repeatedly failed to honour its 90-day payment policy, leaving suppliers to bear the financial strain.
“We sacrifice a lot to sustain the school feeding system, but sometimes the programme becomes politicized, and that affects us,” he lamented.
Alhaji Zakari explained that despite Buffer Stock’s claims of limited food reserves, it was the suppliers who stepped in to keep schools stocked by buying food on credit from farmers.
He added that some suppliers have waited more than six years for payment, urging government to take swift action to clear the arrears and restore confidence in the food supply chain.
